Contraband Kingpin clogged up the ground while I tried to dig for a Master. G1 on the play: I developed early with Stockpile and Treasure Map, he had Servant into Whirler. Eventually I combo'd him out with Marionette Master, Treasure, and Stockpile tokens. He used the Cast Out on a Tezzeret, but I developed a Treasure Map and Cast Out his Scarab God, which he was clearly disappointed about. He told me after the game his turn 4 Gonti ended up hitting the other 3 Cast Outs, which he thought meant his Scarab God was clear. I took the Glorybringer again, since I was holding yet another Cast Out for Scarab God. Bad sideboarding strategy will be a theme of this report. G2: Slow start for both of us, but my turn 3 Doomfall revealed Glorybringer, Scarab God, Gonti, Push, and Sweltering Suns. In: 3 Duress, 2 Jace's Defeat, 2 Cruel Reality, 1 Spell Swindle, 1 Arguel's Blood Fast Out: 4 Contraband Kingpin, 3 Fatal Push, 2 Fumigate Tezzeret built up to an emblem and I wore him out with 5/5's while he was unable to develop any answer. He played a Gonti on 4, which ended up finding only a Renegade Map. I took the Glorybringer, knowing the Cast Out in my hand could handle the God, and then slammed a Tezzeret on 4 which he couldn't interact with. G1 on the play: I landed a turn 2 Stockpile, and my turn 3 Doomfall revealed Abrade, Harnessed Lightning, Glorybringer, Scarab God, and land. Round 1 - Grixis Midrange/Control (W 1-0) We had the only PPTQ for 3-4 hours in any direction. Despite the low attendance, I knew many of the players and would argue the field was competitive. The local crowd is largely into commander, so most of the players attending were grinders from across the state. Our PPTQ had 23 players, 5 rounds cutting to top 8. The additional Spell Swindle is for control and probably should be for tokens, as well. Crook is obviously good against Gift decks, but has additional power against some token builds and is also decent against control to disrupt Torrential Gearhulks and delay Search for Azcanta. Trespasser's Curse is for tokens, but I suspect it is unnecessary as their engine gains too much life for one to matter. Arguel's Blood Fast will be good against control if you can land it early, as the game can grind out long and you generally don't care about your life total unless you are going to lose anyways. Authority was a hedge against red, which I think is a weak matchup. Fumigate comes in up to 4 with Cruel Reality as an alternate win condition. In my own testing, I found that most spells I needed to counter were blue, and Jace's Defeat gives you the option of hitting key blue creatures like Rogue Refiner, Scarab God, Torrential Gearhulk, Hostage Taker, and Whirler Virtuoso. Duress is great against almost every deck except red, but I don't think it deserves a spot in the main deck. The sideboard was tuned heavily towards control and Temur. Marionette master spell swindle deck plus#I modified the main deck slightly with an extra land to smooth out the openers, and adding another fatal push and cast out as a nod to the expected meta, plus I suspected tokens would perform well, which they did.Ĥ Swamp 2 Island 2 Plains 4 Evolving Wilds 2 Glacial Fortress 2 Drowned Catacombs 2 Fetid Pools 4 Concealed Courtyard 1 Field of Ruinģ Duress 2 Jace's Defeat 2 Fumigate 2 Cruel Reality 1 Authority of the Consuls 1 Fatal Push 1 Arguel's Blood Fast 1 Trespasser's Curse 1 Crook of Condemnation 1 Spell Swindle He also updates his list on Twitter regularly. He got 23rd in the MODO PTQ this weekend. Marionette master spell swindle deck how to#I definitely learned a great deal about how to pilot the deck by watching him play, and I recommend checking out his stream on Twitch if you are interested in playing the deck. He has been tuning the deck over the last couple weeks, and his competitive league results of 42-13 are impressive to say the least. I was looking into the Anointed Procession decks when I saw Conley streaming a build with Marionette Master as a combo finisher. When my local store scheduled their Standard PPTQ for the first week of the season, I knew that I wanted to play something outside of the early World's defined meta of Red, Temur, and U/B Control.
